Always admired, since I was an architectural student, the pared down Neo-Classicism of Claude-Nicolas Ledoux for its clarity, cleverness and geometric quality – particularly liked his cemetery designs most of which were never built. I’m glad this building is now in honest use as the building of this customs wall around Paris was one of the precursors of the French Revolution and the system was abolished in 1791, rendering the toll stations redundant.
